The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 renders it’s namesake lightly, so firstly why the Note 7 and not the Note 6? The answer? keeping in line with Samsung’s current range and demonstrating their consistency. The Note 7 joins the line up of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge of 2016. Dubbing the new note, the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 wouldn’t have been consistent with the branding of “seven” and the competitive market space and climate of today. Similar to earlier this year at MWC the President of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Dj Koh had the honour of revealing the device to the world and the presentation was Olympian. Streamed over the Samsung Gear VR and for audiences in Rio and London live worldwide. Koh sets up the narrative from Samsung and without us beating around the bush, we’re paraphrasing lightly off the beaten track. Samsung listened first, imagined it first, made bigger phones first, took the risk innovated the market and just look around today and what do we see? bigger smarter smartphones and can there be any doubt of that?

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Design Display & Branding

In line with branding consistency and expectation and speculation, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 itself is no exception to this trend it started along with inheriting the new Samsung shape and feel. Looking almost identical to the new S7, the new Note 7 has transfigured it’s image remarkably and it’s more then just good to look at. Available on pre-order here in the UK, from the 16th of August in shades of Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, Gold Platinum and Blue Coral. Early pre-orders before 30th of August will get a free Samsung Gear VR headset. For everyone else, the handset will go on sale the 2nd of September.  Apart from it’s size,  the latest duel curved display from Samsung’s range is barely indistinguishable to it’s partners in crime and early predecessors manufactured at the beginning of the year. Supporting cosmetic and symmetric changes in the nearly identical encased Super AMOLED QHD display. The same display used on the S7. Naturally being a note it’s just a bit bigger intuitive and intricate in all the right places and all at once easy enough to use with your fingertips, even more fluid to navigate with the intelligently fine tuned S-Pen. The additional real estate of the display measures diagonally 5.7 inches which is the same as the Note 5 from yesteryear. However the newly crafted duel curve effect now harnesses 78% of the phones entire surface area. An improvement and stretch away from the Note 5 which still harboured and confidently modelled a modest sharp 75.6% screen to body ratio in contrast. Reminiscent of Apples new Nightshift mode Samsung have mimicked and implemented their own kinder on your eyes Blue-Light filter, adapting automatically to your timezone when selected from the drop-down system trey.

Thus the resolution sparkles at a VR immersive and impressive 2560 x 1440p, the devil’s in the detail with HDR fully integrated strictly for viewing pleasure. Samsung have partnered with Amazon prime for the occasion, whether your gaming browsing the tube, watching Prime or creatively inclined to oil pastel and paint the surface, either jot down your shopping list upon it’s always-on display with the new non-reversible S-Pen. Everything you do, will be illuminated in high pixel density aligning and unifying ‘518’ pixels per inch across the new and slightly expanded 5.7 inch curved display. There’s no mistaking first impressions,  at it’s conception, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 bares the marks and familiar shape of the S7. Samsung quite possibly could be cementing their new feel and ergonomic calling card. It looks like for now, the duel curved display with it’s clever popping effect and edge panel is here to stay, but let’s not get too comfortable or churn the concrete, Samsung certainly do know how to innovate and build up.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Security & Iris Scanner

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 packs the new millennial friendly biometric security, with the by now traditional and familiar finger-print sensor of the S7 embedded into the home button. Giving you the option of foregoing cloning your eyesight for peace of mind. Partnered with this security arrives Samsung’s first aforementioned smartphone Iris Scanner, additionally on the newly crafted and coveted device. Iris scanners have been done before on a phone, but this scanner took Samsung five years to manufacture and perfect for mass market with major corporate and financial cooperation and timing. There’s also the optional password precautions available on the always-on display. Aesthetically, the new security hurdle is set in place and settled at the front of the phone symmetrical to the forward facing 5MP camera. Simply align your eyes with the scanner interface and your instantly zapped with the red infrared and might experience the MIB Neutralizer Flash Placebo Phenomena, and we’re just kidding here about this but there will be a time when you unlock the Note 7 this way and completely forget what you were going to do with the phone. With the flash in your eyes of it’s infrared scanner leaving you instantly recognised and unlocked past the lock screen and into the recognisable and refined TouchWizz interface and Marshmallow 6.01 environment. You can also make your own file incorporating an eye-scan with Samsungs ‘secure folder’ to store apps and anything noteworthy of your privacy or paranoia to be opened at the glance of your own unique iris pattern for verification, leaving nothing open to prying eyes or chance.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 More New Additional Features

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 contains a host of new additional software and design features. Standing out by itself, with the new iris scanner as it’s main technical selling point. As an added extra of safety consistency and convenience, it now joins it’s siblings, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. As well as mingling amongst Sony’s crowded water resistant battleship and competitive lineup. Boasting an IP68 certificate, the Note 7 is water and dust resistant. Samsung have even gone one stroke further and made the S-Pen effectively waterproof in up to 1.5 meters of submerged water. Usable on a wet and submerged screen, you can now also magnify the screen up to 300% , zooming into read text or view an image in finer detail with the new age pen. Likewise, a new tie in with this feature is ingeniously integrated ‘Smartloop’, giving you the option to select and loop a video from your library or rip one straight from YouTube instantly to make and share your own generated animated GIF. The S-Pen can be used to highlight and select text and translate it on the fly. It’s also mega handy to write notes and reminders which can be pinned behind view of the always-on screen.

Battery Processing Power & Storage Space

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 comes lightly armoured with the new Gorilla Glass 5 wrapping it’s duel curved display. The new Note 7 has increased it’s on board memory two-fold to 64 GB, with enough added space for 256 GB of microSD storage. Beneath the glass and under the hood is a powerful collection of goodies. Strapped with 4 Gigabytes of RAM and the same reliable and immensely powerful Octa-Core processing system found on the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. The battery is still non-removable with 3500 mAh an increase of 500 mAh overshadowing the Samsung Galaxy Note 5. The Note 7 distances itself further from the Samsung Galaxy S7 which packed 3600 mAh. Early reports and product testers have reputed that the batteries quick charger restores 48-50% power in a minimum of thirty minutes using the included USB Type-C fast inductive charger. Samsung throw in a regular USB adaptor compatible with all previous Samsung devices for free. There are detailed and intuitive power saving options with the App Power Monitor, enabling easy observation of battery and power draining apps running in the background. Which can be shut down to safely save on your battery,  for further more control and customisation Note 7 owners will be able to change the clocking speed of their entire system and refresh the display at different rates of resolution. Dropping from QHD to HD down to 720p, each tweak you will be able to make you’ll be notified and pre-informed of the energy length and power consumption, adding to the life and  longevity of the battery, presumably numbering into disciplined double numbers of days and weeks.

Overall First Impressions Of The Samsung Galaxy Note 7

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 like it’s forebears shares the same collective genealogy and is built to last. Not just ergonomically as a crafted mechanical technical admirable piece of art, that if well taken care of will be more then adequate for the next few years and up. It offers supreme control and personal customisation and appears to be optimised in regards to it’s newfound power saving abilities. With great expectation, the streamlined 0.7 mm digital quill tip of the S-Pen comes sealed and water bound resistant with it’s many useful always at hand and ready features. The Glance feature operated with the S-Pen is Samsung’s answer and parry to peek and pop, empowering you to use and take advantage of the S-Pen to hover and sweep and keep apps open in the background for you to take a quick ‘glance’ and switch into at anytime. The new Note has been weaved together to blanket and smother any smouldering embers that the iPhone 7 is fanning in the infinite loop of the Apple HQ and think-tank. The rear LED and 12 MP camera is the same award winning camera found on the S7/edge, albeit with an immaculately tailored new swiping interface. The front facing 5 MP camera is nested naturally next to the dedicated iris camera which is symmetrical opposite to the infrared scanner. Implementing arguably the world’s first success ready anticipated personal iris scanner. Which isn’t entirely necessary but will be welcomed and important aspect and experience to some. Samsung seem to be dipping their beak to test the waters on it’s uptake, providing private incentive to do so.
